Time to Change Philosophy?

Time to Change Philosophy? - FTBpro lineup

This is my first article in a while due to numerous reasons. After a very disappointing defensive display (once again) at White hart lane 7 days ago I would like to think the weekend break we have had would involved extensive training for the first team with the main emphasis  being on Defensive situations ie Holding a good line, tracking your runners and obviously defending set pieces which we have been appalling at for most of the season, not forgetting the one thing that annoys me stop the crosses at source.

Goalkeeper

Szczesny

1

Szczesny

Since he appears to be the only keeper at the club worth his crust he pretty much picks himself this has been a worrying position for us for years ever since David Seaman left in all honesty we need alot more competition for places this position being of the highest priority.

Defence

Jenkinson

Koscielny

Vermaelen

Monreal

With the likelihood of Sagna’s departure in the summer and the fact that Jenkinson was very impressive last Sunday I would plump for carl ahead of the ageing and inconsistent French Right Back. Koscielny and Vermaelen I feel to be the best Centre Back Partnership at the club and is very mobile which is exactly what we need to be in both of these difficult games coming up. Monreal who is still looking to settle but have seen alot of good things from him already.

Midfield

Arteta

Wilshere

Wilshere

Walcott

Cazorla

Oxlade-Chamberlain

15

Oxlade-Chamberlain

Due to what seems our forever decreasing squad size Arteta would be deployed as a holding midfield player once more with the tenacious Wilshere along side for support. Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wings to give us pace which is something we have lacked alot recently the balance has not been anywhere close. Cazorla who has constantly been deployed on the wing recently doesnt look the same player as when he was playing centrally. he should be given a free role and given licence to express himself as far up the pitch as he wants. He has been playing with the shackles on lately for some reason. He has the ability to destroy any side given the opportunity to do so.

Forwards

Podolski

9

Podolski

I have been crying out for Podolski to be given the chance up top, he doesnt give you enough stuck out on the wing, he is very rarely going to show you an injection of pace, whereas he has great movement a good touch, good eye for goal and a bullet of a strike. He is made to play up top in this system, I would pick him ahead of Giroud he looks very out of sorts at the moment.

I have no doubt that this system and personnel will not play because Wenger is stuck in his one plan philosophy. I don’t see us doing enough to go through in Munich I just hope we give a good account of ourselves and save some face. I would love to see our fortunes change in the champions league and Premier league alike but my head is telling me it wont. I think we are too far behind Tottenham and chelsea now, we are running out of games dramatically. maybe it is time for some experimentation, fourth spot has well truly gone, We are as good as out of the champions league, nothing to play for, might as well see what some of our kids have got.

what you say makes sense to a lot of supporters I should think, but whilst I am not against Wenger (in Arsene we trust), who can persuade him to try any team formation like this, I wish someone could

Thanks for your feedback much appreciated, we will have to agree to disagree on our Wenger opinions. but regarding the team philosophy, the main problem I foresee is that anyone that is around him that voices a contradictory opinion he cuts them out entirely. look at Steve Bould he was running the show defensively at the start of the season. he then mentioned to Wenger his concerns about our training schedule all of sudden he gets stripped of his main coaching duties. he may as well be wearing the Gunnersaurus outfit. I also hear that he might go gung-ho against Bayern this to me is a huge mistake if that is at all true. if there is one thing Bayern are good at its soaking up pressure and then hitting quick on the break like we used to be.
