It is being widely reported on various Football Websites that Arsenal are very close to agreeing a deal to bring Swansea and Wales Captain Ashley Williams to the Emirates. It is firmly believed that Wenger sees the position of extreme importance this summer and he is keen to do busy very early.

So what do we know about Ashley Williams?

The Wales International has impressed many clubs in the two premier league seasons he has captained the Swansea club and is expected to command a fee of around £10 million, for this you would be getting a towering figure in the back four. he is a very good communicator and has very good organisation skills.  He has been ever present this season earning some high praise from many in the game.

What would this mean for other Defenders at the club?

With countless rumours reporting Vermaelen’s time is up and today he has been linked with a £7.5 million move to serie A side Napoli their will be a need for another experienced head in the rear guard. Koscielny is no doubt now the first name on the team sheet in respect of the back four, I can foresee Williams and Koscielny forming a very strong and impressive centre back pairing, Personally I would have to say this move would be a no brainer for Arsenal.

Not forgetting that also Sagna is constantly being linked with moves back to his homeland with PSG this would possibly open the possibility of maybe deploying a back three maybe that is a debate for another time. It is something that Wenger had dabbled with last summer in pre season, with the players that Arsene has at his disposal it is a possibility.

It would appear Wenger is looking to move quick in the transfer market which would be a welcome change to previous years for the Arsenal faithful, I am sure he will be looking to avoid any lengthy  transfer sagas this summer.

Feedback always welcome.
